10/07/2019 Temple in Arkansas?!?!?!?!?!

That's what everyone is all excited about down here. It was announced that a temple is going to be built in Bentonville, AR. Not in our mission, and Memphis is still closer for those in the Little Rock area, but a temple in Arkansas nonetheless. That announcement was really cool! There are apparently 50 or so temples under construction with 166 operational ones. Almost a third of the total! Wow

The other announcement is transfers. I will be staying in Benton with Elder Critchfield. We are starting to get a better footing here, we'll see where that takes us this next transfer. 

General Conference was really good. While on my mission it has seemed like my favorite sessions have always been the Saturday ones. Maybe I should have paid more attention to them before the mission haha. The changes are interesting. I like how the policies are changing to fit the circumstances of the units all around the world. Not one mold works the same for every congregation of saints. 

For the work this week it was pretty good. The lesson we were really excited for didnt really go as planned though. We were going to teach a mother and children, but the mother couldn't come out and we couldn't go in the house for some reason, so the kids came outside and sat on some lawn chairs. We didnt know how trying to teach the restoration would go here, so we just talked about the Book of Mormon and watched the first Book of Mormon video. They seemed to enjoy it. The videos are a good resource for teaching people about the Book of Mormon. I do like that they are making them.

1) it was a nice day to go biking. We got a scare with transfer news. The news was saying our area was going full bike (meaning no more car), but our area includes lots of freeway and highway traffic and we live about 8 miles from where we do most of our work. So we called the assistants to the President and they said it was most likely a mistake. Count your blessings.

So Elder Matt (EM) is serving in the Arkansas Little Rock mission. He was dropped off at the MTC in Provo by his brother, his sister, and brother in law. on the way to the airport in MN on Tuesday Laters How can babies walk away from their parents this easily??? "OK you can go now" In N Out Burger before the MTC induction on Wednesday. EM's brother says there were other families at the restaurant that were going to be dropping off their missionaries leaving sister's apartment MTC parking garage drop off And about an hour later, EM sent his first email: I have arrived at the MTC alive. Paul, Hayley, and Austin did a good job dropping me off and keeping me company. Next week Thursday is my P day. That's when you can expect to receive an email from me next.

11/1/2018 titled "Letter 2 Electric Boogaloo"

Week 2 of the MTC. It definitely went faster than the first week. This email is just going to be a splatter of experiences, descriptions, and stories probably. More about my companion: Elder Miller is from Arizona. He likes basketball, and played on a national team in high school, which is pretty rad. He's pretty goofy and can make everyone in the district laugh. He likes rap and country music the most, so we're kind of on the opposite when regards to the music spectrum.  MTC cafeteria food is a hit-miss. The breakfasts have gotten old really fast. It's the same "egg loaf" (scrambled eggs that's really more of a loaf than a scramble), bad ham, and oversalted hash browns every other day. The lunches and dinners range from great to bad. For the most part it's better than what I ate in college, but that's because I was paying for food and being super cheap, I ate sandwiches and rice. We sit together as a district for most meals.
