09/02/2019 A lot more of everthing

Benton/Bryant has a lot in it. People, traffic, and especially businesses. We live right along the freeway, so getting out of our apartment, we see just about every food chain. And it's all packed in in just about a 5 mile stretch. They do have a Target. It's been a while since I have stepped foot into one of those. And I forgot what rush hour was like. They have it here! 

The ward is also big. Almost double the size of my other two units combined. I forgot what wards are like. It was a good meeting though. A member visiting from elsewhere brought his friend who lives here. He really enjoyed the service, so hopefully we can get in further contact with him.

Most of the work this week has been trying to get to know members in the area, especially ministering families, part member families, and so on, as well as trying to find the people who were on our teaching list. Elder Critchfield and I have not before whitewashed (missionary term meaning both missionaries being new to the area), so we didnt really know what we were doing, but we'll figure it out eventually. 

Also funny connection. One of the many moves I did with Elder Green in Arkadelphia was a move for a member couple from Arkadelphia and Benton. So I get to follow them coming up to Benton, and we even had a meal with them yesterday, and they didnt even know I was going to be the new missionary until they saw me at church. They're really awesome so I am glad to be in their unit again.

So Elder Matt (EM) is serving in the Arkansas Little Rock mission. He was dropped off at the MTC in Provo by his brother, his sister, and brother in law. on the way to the airport in MN on Tuesday Laters How can babies walk away from their parents this easily??? "OK you can go now" In N Out Burger before the MTC induction on Wednesday. EM's brother says there were other families at the restaurant that were going to be dropping off their missionaries leaving sister's apartment MTC parking garage drop off And about an hour later, EM sent his first email: I have arrived at the MTC alive. Paul, Hayley, and Austin did a good job dropping me off and keeping me company. Next week Thursday is my P day. That's when you can expect to receive an email from me next.

11/1/2018 titled "Letter 2 Electric Boogaloo"

Week 2 of the MTC. It definitely went faster than the first week. This email is just going to be a splatter of experiences, descriptions, and stories probably. More about my companion: Elder Miller is from Arizona. He likes basketball, and played on a national team in high school, which is pretty rad. He's pretty goofy and can make everyone in the district laugh. He likes rap and country music the most, so we're kind of on the opposite when regards to the music spectrum.  MTC cafeteria food is a hit-miss. The breakfasts have gotten old really fast. It's the same "egg loaf" (scrambled eggs that's really more of a loaf than a scramble), bad ham, and oversalted hash browns every other day. The lunches and dinners range from great to bad. For the most part it's better than what I ate in college, but that's because I was paying for food and being super cheap, I ate sandwiches and rice. We sit together as a district for most meals.
