01/21/2019 Familiar Faces

My second transfer is winding down, and now I'm really starting to understand the area. Transfer info is dropping this Saturday. So next Pday you'll know whether I'm staying or going.

In an area where a couple hundred thousand people live in, work in, pass through, we have come to see quite a few people on the streets that we have come into contact with times before. I'm starting to feel like a part of Memphis now. We take the city bus all the time now, and we are starting to see the same bus drivers and the same passengers. People on the bus are starting to greet us and converse with us as if we are their regular associates on the bus. We haven't been able to get really any solid interested people on the bus, but there usually people willing to talk, which is fine by us. Better that then people telling us to go away. We also see familiar faces just walking or biking the streets. Some good, like a guy I had a good laugh with at a bus stop last transfer, some not so good. Like the first Hebrew Israelite man I met (who facebook lived us again).

It's been a little chilly the past couple days. Saturday was super weird cause it rained in the morning, got pretty warm and humid around noon, then started pouring and was super windy, then snowed in the evening. It was pretty wack.

We had a few lessons this week. One guy we've been working with for a couple of weeks called us over one afternoon and we just read 1 Nephi 1 with him. 1 Nephi 1 is such a great chapter. It can be adaptable to so many situations and topics. We're hoping he gets more into it. He also came to church this week. Just for the first hour though. Not even a linger longer could entice him to stay. It was a great linger longer too.

I don't remember if I shared this story but while at Taco Bell a week and a half ago a man stopped me while Elder Jolie was in the bathroom and asked us to meet with him. We taught him the restoration. He is a really sweet and humble man.

Also, a rather unfortunate event has taken place in the apartment. Our shower has gotten clogged for the second time, and this time it's BAD. It won't drain within the space of a day. And running the faucets in the bathroom and kitchen also pool into the tub (so there are stuff that goes down the kitchen drain that ends up in the shower). This issue has been a real headache. Especially over the weekend when the apartment office isn't open. And since today is MLK Day and the office ain't open. On the bright side, the apartment is being renovated starting this quarter. We still don't know how that's going to affect where we are living (and it may start after I leave Midtown), but that's in the not too distant future.

This was the last week the Davises are here. Yesterday was their last Sunday (they gave talks and we had the linger longer for them). They've been really awesome. The new senior missionaries arrive here this evening.

Small, but pretty cool aside: Also found an FRC team here in Memphis, 4764 the Memphis Mechwarriors. Their work space is at the big library we frequently go to. The game looks interesting this year. If any of you reading is this participating, good luck and have fun!

Today the Civil Rights Museum is free if we donate cans of food to the local food bank, so many missionaries in the are will be there. Should be a fun time!

Until next week!

1) went to the zoo last week. It was rather brisk and so a lot of the outdoor animals weren't out. They didn't even have the penguins out! The indoor animals like the reptiles, fish, and tropical birds were out. Elder Jolie and I really like this picture of some crocs. Looks like an album cover.

2) this dragon at the zoo has been feasting upon the word

3) (redacted)

4) I'm in Memphis if you have forgotten

5) the zone at the zoo. We got a new lion companionship.
